How to Install and Activate eSIM on Your iPhone
Once you’ve purchased an international data plan with eSIM, follow these steps to activate it:
- Connect to a Reliable Internet Source: Before using the eSIM, connect to a Wi-Fi network with a good signal.
- Enable Cellular Data and Roaming:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Cellular or Mobile Data and turn on Cellular Data and Cellular Data Options.
- Add the eSIM:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Cellular or Mobile Data.

- Complete Installation: The scanning and installation will take a few minutes. Keep the screen open and avoid closing it to prevent errors. Stay connected to a stable internet connection.
- Set Up eSIM: After installation, you’ll be asked to set the eSIM as your primary or secondary line. Choose Primary Line and turn off your Israeli SIM to avoid extra charges.
- Ready to Go: Your eSIM is now active, and you can use your data plan abroad until it’s fully consumed.
How to Check if Your eSIM is Working and Not Carrier-Locked
If you’ve bought a new iPhone, it might be locked to the carrier you purchased it from, meaning you might only be able to use that carrier’s network. To use a different carrier’s eSIM abroad, you may need to unlock your device first.
To check if your eSIM is working and if your iPhone is locked:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap General.
- Select About.
- Scroll to Carrier Lock.
If it says No SIM Restrictions, your iPhone is unlocked and you can use an eSIM abroad. If there’s a restriction, contact your carrier to request an unlock.
How to End eSIM Usage After Your Trip
When your trip is over:
- Go to Settings on your iPhone.
- Tap Cellular or Mobile Data.
- Turn off the eSIM plan you used. The plan and its name will be saved on your device for future use.
Reactivate your SIM and set it as your primary line.
